An enchanting getaway with lovely views, the Writers House at Frenchman's River, Cygnet was once an apple-picker's cottage. Imaginatively re-imaged by designer Andrew Blaxland, this interesting building was where novelist Posie Graeme-Evans wrote two novels, The Island House & The Dressmaker; now it's a delightful self-catering retreat in a cottage garden with long views of Cygnet Bay and the surrounding 200 acre farm. Double-glazing makes changing seasons a joy as does the open fire (supplied by wood from our own forest) while ceiling fans, French doors and bi-fold windows and a vast north-facing terrace means summer is bliss.
A romantic bedroom, eclectic furniture, chefs kitchen (well-stocked fridge and pantry) plus local cheese, complimentary bottle of wine and a basket of breakfast provisions mean you may never want to go outside. If you do, the whole farm is yours to explore and, at sunset or dawn, you might glimpse the platypus in the dam.
