Nyangbul lands cover from Brunswick Heads in the north, through Byron Bay and Ballina, Wardell and Cabbage Tree Island on the Richmond River in the south. They call Byron Bay Gubenbah (meaning 'big scrub') and Ballina is Bullinah ('big stomach, plenty to eat').
